In his tenure at Oregon State University, Chuck Toombs discovered this unique strain growing at the Hatfield Marine Science Center. Forming a company that is now called Oregon Seaweed, they have created several new strains that have different functional properties growing at their two farms 200 miles apart. Our Bandon farm has been in operation for over 4 years and our second farm built in Garibaldi in early 2021 is the largest land based seaweed farm in the contiguous United States.
Oregon Seaweed is on a mission to provide low impact, high nutrient, fresh foods to the world. Our seaweed is carbon-negative and non-polluting. We prioritize our people and protecting the coastline.
We believe that healthy, fresh ingredients do not have to come at a cost to the environment; in fact, alternative sources of protein like seaweed can help our world heal. Dulse seaweed is naturally high in protein, vitamins, and minerals, far exceeding other plant-based proteins.
